Things I’m No Longer Buying
As we head into 2020, I wanted to chat a bit about sustainability and how I’m trying to make it a focus in my life. Y’all know I love thrifting for fabrics but near the beginning of 2019, I decided to make it a goal not to buy new if I could avoid it. It’s a tough thing to do but I’m glad to say 99% of my clothing and decor purchases were thrifted in 2019 and that’s for sure something I’m bringing forward to 2020! Here are a few more things I'm vowing to give up this year.
Plastic straws were something that I’ve felt REAL guilty about using for a while, your girl is a big fan of turtles and other animals so seeing all the pollution hurts. That said I’m a girl who loves cold coffee and drinking with a straw is my vibe so a reusable cup and stainless steel straw became the way to go! My dear maker friend at Sincere hooked me up with a bunch of them and they are now a staple in my life. Do I slip up sometimes? For sure, no one's perfect, but I try my best and that counts for something right! And I realized it became so much easier when I made a case to keep a couple of straws in my purse (purse gunk is gross) - and guess what those cases are coming to the site soon!
I'm also trying to stop using cotton pads, they're single-use, leave little fluffs behind and generally are a pain in the butt. So I'm swapping them out for washable ones and you guessed it those are coming soon too! I'm just trying to figure out the best fabric to use.
I also upgraded my mouth game with a swanky new electric toothbrush. Less trashing plastic toothbrushes that will live longer than I do (ew) and more clean mouth, please. It's also really great that the company I purchased from gives a toothbrush, toothpaste and fluoride treatment to a person in need for every brush they ship. So it's good for my mouth and for someone else's! Win Win!
Let's be real friends no one can do everything but it's about taking small steps towards a more sustainable future. And honestly, ya'll it feels damn good whenever I say no straw please, so give it a shot and pat yourself on the back when you do!
