DIY FTW! Bamboo Light Vibes

DIY FTW! Bamboo Light Vibes

Those who know me will tell you that I'm a DIY girl at heart, I don't just make products but I make things for my house as well. So it comes to no surprise to them that I'm always trying to make something new, and usually I keep it to my personal pages but I figured I'd start sharing it here too as well just in case it gives you the inspo to try DIY.

Here's how we went from this:

To This:

I've had these lights for ages and while I don't hate them they aren't my favourite either so when quarantine hit I decided now was the time to switch them up. So I picked up a few bamboo place mats from the thrift store and got to work.

I had hoped to keep the general structure the same but when I got to ripping off the paper I realized that wasn't going to happen so I decided to change it up and go a bit smaller using just the top and bottom circles of the existing shade.

Once all the paper was removed and I had clean circles to work with I busted out my trusty glue gun and started adding the individual skewers from the bamboo mats. I thought about doing just the mats themselves but found they weren't quite big enough around. Several skewers and lots of burnt hot glue fingers later I had a full circle shade to replace on my lamp!

Now at this point I contemplated painting the stand black but the more I stared at it while binging netflix the more I realized I wasn't really the standing lamp type anymore and I wanted something different. My fave youtubers the Sorry Girls are constantly hacking sconce style lights so I figured that might be the way to go.

So one quick trip to Ikea for pendant light plugs and 2 shelf brackets and I was ready to go! I wrapped the pendant cord around the cross section of the bracket a few times and over the top so that it would hang nicely and popped it up on the wall. Then I added my shade, now because these shades weren't designed for pendant light setups I did have to make some adjustments to how it would work but my trusty glue gun saved the day and I was able to add a ring of glue to secure it to the pendant cord. Et voila the pendant sconce of my dreams and a much more chic vibe for my living room.

What do you think? Would you try this one?

Keep an eye on the blog for more DIYFTW projects to come!
